Club Competitions

It was a good weekend for Desborough Bowling Club as the Men and Ladies played in National Competitions with both being victorious. The men played in the Denny Cup against County rivals West Berks and eased to an 82 – 51 victory with all rinks making telling contributions. They will now play Westlecot in the next round. The ladies put in a similar performance against a strong Whiteknights side in the Yetton Trophy as they won 78 – 59. They now play Handy Cross on 20 November

Club Friendly

Desborough welcomed Herga IBC to Green Lane for a 6 rink triples match and snatched a narrow win, 109 – 96, although in fairness the 6 rinks were shared which makes it a honourable draw. The rinks skipped by Brian Faulkner and John Munnelly managed wins but didn’t come close to the top rink of Chris Howard, Bob Forster and Sam Stack who won 24 – 14.

National Fours

Mark Essex, Marina Bignell, Lorraine Woodley and Malcolm Woodley played their National Fours game away at Whiteknights at the weekend. They were up against strong opposition which included Malcolm Giles and Alan Symondson. It was a terrific game and very close all along. The Desborough team went into the last end 1 shot down and needed 1 to force an extra end or 2 to win the match. After all the bowls had been delivered it came down to a close measure for shot and unfortunately Whiteknights had the edge by a couple of centimeters and won the game 20-18.
